Edwin J. Abar - Kiwanis Communication Scholarship

The Abar Scholarship is given to a student majoring in Communication. Applicant must be in their junior year. Applicant may be a day, evening, or transfer student. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for all courses. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.30 in Communication courses. Applicants must have at least seventy-five (75) credits at time of application submission. Applicants will be asked to communicate the following:

  • Contributions to the Westfield State University Community: Examples include but are not limited to: student newspapers, radio stations, television clubs, music groups, theatre groups, service clubs, counseling centers, athletics, or college governance/government.
  • Contributions to the Greater Westfield Community: Examples include but are not limited to: Kiwanis activities, blood drives, Boys & Girls Club, homeless shelters, senior citizen visits, battered women’s shelters, hospitals, or at charity related holiday events.
  • Financial Need: Evidence could include but is not limited to: work-study status, self-financing of education, full or part-time employment, and student debt (ie: loans).
  • The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to verify submitted evidence.
